Sprengel Museum Hannover, the museum where artworks of the "Niedersächischer Kunstpreis" winners are exhibited.

The Lower Saxony Art Prize (Lower Saxony Art Prizes for Visual Arts) is awarded annually by the state of Lower Saxony to Lower Saxony artists for outstanding achievements. The award supports young artists in their creative development.


The art prize, endowed with EUR 15,000, was initiated in 1961 by the Lower Saxony Minister of Culture Richard Voigt (1895–1970). Previous award winners include: Siegfried Strohbach (1994), Thomas Huber (1995), Rolf Bier (1997), Timm Ulrichs (1998), Thomas Virnich (2001), Raimund Girke (2002), Marina Abramović (2003), Andreas Slominski (2004), Leni Hoffmann (2005) and Bogomir Ecker (2006).


The funding award is endowed with EUR 7,500. Prize winners included Gabriele Marwede (1962), Ror Wolf (1965) and Michael Beutler (2004).


The prizes are awarded based on the recommendation of an expert commission. They are presented by the Lower Saxony Minister for Science and Culture. The award winners will be honored at various locations in Lower Saxony.
